Choosing toddler skis or kids' skis? Let our Ski experts make it easy

Look forward to a safe, hassle-free winter sports holiday with your family. When you reserve equipment for your children in advance online or hire it in person, you know it meets the required standards. Here are a few tips to help get the right ski size for kids.

The length of children's skis according to their height and age

To determine the right  length skis for your child, you need to** **consider their height and the characteristics required: manoeuvrability, stability, speed, etc.

Although the size of ski depends on the height of your child, it also depends on their level. For a beginner, choose a pair of skis  ** **5 to 15 cm less than their height. The shorter the ski, the easier it is to control and the faster your little skier will progress. When your child starts to feel comfortable, longer skis can be chosen, as long as the child is tall, or even 5 cm shorter, up until they are adults.

Not sure? To help you, here's a table showing the average height of a child according to their age.

For the boys:

For the girls:

For girls:

  • 4 years : 97 cm
  • 8 years : 1,18 m
  • 10 years : 1,30 m
  • 12 years : 1,44 m
  • 15 years : 1,55 m
  • 18 years : 1,65 m

The type of skis according the child's level

Your children's level and experience will determine the type of skis they need for enjoyable, safe, comfortable skiing.

First steps on the slopes: straight skis are better for child beginners because they offer greater stability and manoeuvrability.

Confident style, technique mastered, the more experienced skiers will be taking the turns one after the other and beginning parallel skiing. They should choose more versatile parabolic skis, perfect for adapting to their progress and for enjoying themselves on the edges of the piste.
