Choosing your skis to match your style and ability level: our tips

Have the time of your life on skis, whatever your ability level

Whether you want t swoop down groomed pistes or explore the whole ski area with your friends and family, these tips and tricks will help you choose wisely. All you need to do now is put on your ski suit!

Skis for every level of skill

Beginner, experienced or expert, progress at your own pace with the right skis.

To familiarise yourself with the basic movements and take your first bends on the blue and green pistes, choose short, fairly narrow skis. They are more manoeuvrable, with better grip and enable faster reactions. Choose fairly flexible fixings so you can remove your skis easily.

Are you comfortable with turns and making progress on the pistes? To make progress and increase your speed, choose a slightly wider, more rigid design that offers better control on the curves. The more skilled you become, the more rigid your skis should be.

For those who know how to carve, that is to take very sharp bends leaning over as far as possible, a very high-performance ski is required. Carving skis have a parabolic shape, ideal for carved turns without losing speed. Thrills guaranteed:

Get your fill of thrills, whatever the terrain

Children or grown-ups, the slopes are open to beginners as well as the most experienced of skiers. For faster reactions on the slopes, you need shorter skis with a narrow waist.

If you like to tackle the snow in all conditions, choose all-mountain skis. They are slightly wider than classic skis, with their rocker, or camber reversed, making manoeuvres easier.

If you're a fan of all terrain skiing, choose skis with a wide waist (over 90 mm) and long, wide tips, for unique thrills. Designs with flat heels offer speed and stability.

For lovers of freestyle, twin-tip skis, that are both lightweight and tough, are perfect for jumping and always landing on your skis.
